I got tired of Adobe's monthly rent and β¬300 Mac-only paywalls. So I built my own standalone Windows font tool. Draw your curves anywhere, press Ctrl+V, and compile production OpenType fonts instantly.
I sat on my couch one day, drew a custom display alphabet in Affinity Designer on my iPad, hit Ctrl+C (aka swiped down with 3 fingers on my tablet inside Fontself App)... and nothing! After googling and realizing that the app didn't have "paste" for outside vectors, I searched Fontself for Windows...that's when I realized the entire font-making industry assumed I was still paying rent to my toxic ex-- Adobe.
Fontself wanted me locked inside Illustrator! It is an Adobe Illustraor PLUGIN!! Glyphs wanted $300 and refused to run on Windows (the only Apple product I have is my iPad). FontLab felt like an intimidating spreadsheet from 1998. And trying out all the open-source software for fonts frustrated me to no end!
I didn't want a 400-page manual. I just wanted to draw a pretty little vector curves in my favorite design apps,copy/paste them into a clean slot, nudge the kerning, and export a real .otf font file on my PC.
So I did whatever anyone else who's fed up with the system would do....
I built Pilcron myself. It's just moi, no board of directors, no venture capital, no subscriptions, and zero telemetry. An artist with a lot of time on their hands to stick it to the big guy. If youβre tired of the corporate software leash, I hope this saves your sanity like it saved mine.
Zero intermediate file formats. Zero plugin installation drama.
Create your glyphs in Affinity Designer, Figma, Illustrator, or Inkscape. Hit Ctrl+C on your vector path. No templates needed.
Select your letter in Pilcron and press Ctrl+V. The direct slot-paste maps your vector bezier curves cleanly and instantly into place.
Hit export. Pilcron compiles valid binary .otf and .ttf desktop font files in 200 milliseconds, ready to install directly into Windows.
Corporate tools trap you in subscriptions and walled gardens. Here is how Pilcron treats you with basic respect.
You created the art. You own the font. No fine print, no royalties, no taking your work.
Every vector bezier, kerning pair, and compiled binary (.otf, .ttf) you generate belongs exclusively to you forever.
Sell your typefaces on Creative Market, Type Department, MyFonts, or client rebrands. I claim zero cuts or ongoing fees.
Your typography is synthesized entirely on your local machine. Vectors never touch external servers or AI training pools.
Paste individual letters with precision into any slot using Ctrl+V, or use the experimental Strip Parser helper to quickly distribute evenly spaced rows of alphabet glyphs.
Adjust clearance between troublesome pairs like AV, To, and Ta with simple visual sliders. What you see is mathematically baked into your exported font file.
Never draw 140 accented European glyphs by hand. Pilcron dynamically merges your base letters (A, e, o) with accent marks and punctuation (^, ~, Β¨).
Compiles clean .otf and .ttf font binaries that install directly into Windows and work smoothly across Photoshop, InDesign, Affinity, DaVinci Resolve, and games.
Support independent software. Zero subscriptions. Lifetime offline ownership.
For coursework, typography interns, and portfolio development.
For independent designers, letterers & freelance studios on Windows.
For art colleges, design faculties, and shared computer labs.
Expensed directly onto a client rebrand project budget.
Unlimited organization-wide seats with full legal indemnification.
Straight answers. No corporate double-talk.
Fontself is an extension strictly locked to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop subscriptions. I wanted a standalone tool on Windows that accepts vector SVG clipboard paste from Affinity Designer, Inkscape, and Figma without paying Adobe $65 every month.
No. Pilcron is completely standalone. You can draw your vectors in Affinity Designer, Figma, Inkscape, or any vector editor. If you can copy an SVG or bezier path, it works instantly.
Pilcron compiles clean OpenType (.otf) and TrueType (.ttf) font binaries that install natively into Windows and work across Photoshop, InDesign, Affinity, DaVinci Resolve, and game engines.
Yes, 100%. Under the Pilcron Creator License (PCL 1.0), you retain full intellectual property ownership of every font file you compile. I claim 0% royalties and zero cuts from your font sales.
Solo and nomad users get a lightweight 2MB micro-launcher that installs cleanly to %LOCALAPPDATA% with zero 1990s install wizards and checks for silent 2-second updates. Enterprise buyers receive standalone offline .msi installers for IT mass deployment.
